SAN DIEGO - San Diego Fire-Rescue's HAZMAT team had to be called out to destroy liquid hazardous material dropped off Saturday at Miramar Landfill north of state Route 52 at 5180 Convoy St., according to a broadcast news report.
According to a local television station, highly dangerous and volatile liquid hazardous waste of a type usually found in laboratories was dropped off at the landfill.
The HAZMAT bomb squad was called in to transport the chemical in a steel container to a safe place using a robot. The squad then detonated a bomb to destroy the chemical substance.
There were no injuries.
Westbound SR-52 was closed for a few minutes as a precautionary measure.
