Hazmat crews called after bottles of unknown substance discovered at Poway storage facility

POWAY, Calif. - Hazmat crews on Wednesday responded to a storage facility in Poway after bottles of an unknown substance were found in a storage pod.

The incident was reported at about 3:50 p.m. at the facility in the 12000 block of Crosthwaite Circle.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, someone cleaning out a storage pod reported a chemical smell. Inside the pod, deputies discovered bottles of an unknown substance inside and called for Hazmat crews.

Crews arrived and were investigating multiple bottles labeled “carcinogens” in the storage pod.

They remained on scene until about 7 p.m. It is unknown if the bottles were removed or disposed of.

The Department of Environmental Health was also on scene for a notice of violation.
