Guns seized, man arrested after Oceanside standoff

OCEANSIDE - A man who allegedly held his girlfriend and her son at gunpoint, prompting a four-hour standoff, was safely arrested early Monday morning in Oceanside.

At 9:12 p.m. Sunday officers responded to a 911 call from an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Vista Rey regarding a suspect who had a gun pointed at his girlfriend and her adult son.

According to Oceanside police, when officers got on scene, the two victims had escaped.

The suspect, 49-year-old Greg Roenfeldt, barricaded himself in the apartment and refused to come out. A Crisis Negotiation Team was called out.

Finally, at 1:35 a.m. he surrendered. Officers also seized a semi-automatic handgun and several rifles from the unit.

Roenfeldt was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count each domestic violence-spousal abuse and criminal threats.
