Armed Robbery Of La Mesa Coco's Reported Just After Midnight

A gunman wearing a ski mask robbed a La Mesa restaurant overnight, locking its manager in a cooler in the process, police said.The armed robbery of the Coco's at 5500 Lake Murray Blvd. was reported just after midnight, according to La Mesa police.The restaurant's manager told investigators that he had just closed the business and was walking to his vehicle when the robber approached, pointing a black semi-automatic handgun at him.The gunman then ordered the manager back into the restaurant, where he was forced to open a safe before being locked into a cooler, police said.The gunman fled with an undisclosed amount of money and the manager called police about 15 minutes later, after somehow freeing himself from the cooler, according to police.Police described the gunman as a dark-skinned male, about 6 feet 1 inches tall to 6 feet 3 inches tall and 230 to 250 pounds, last seen wearing a dark colored ski mask, dark hoodie sweatshirt and dark pants.Anyone with information regarding the robbery was urged to call La Mesa police at (619) 667-1400. Tipsters can also call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
