CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Authorities said two grocery store workers in Chula Vista were hospitalized Wednesday night after they were attacked by thieves with a hammer in the store's parking lot.
The Chula Vista Police Department said the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. at the Northgate Market store in the 1000 block of 3rd Ave.
The employees told 10News that they ran after a couple of shoplifters who stole stuff from the store and that one of the men ended up hitting one of the employees in the head with a hammer.
The employee was taken by ambulance to UCSD Medical Center with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The other employee suffered a puncture in the left shoulder during the scuffle. He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista.
Police said the thieves left the scene in a gray minivan.
The attacker was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, who was last seen wearing a red shirt and gray pants.
