Grease, Roots Blockage Causes Sewage Spill

3,375 Gallons Of Sewage Reported In Fairbanks Ranch

A blockage of grease and roots caused a spill of about 3,375 gallons of sewage in Fairbanks Ranch Monday, according to the county Department of Environmental Health.

The spill began around 8:50 a.m. at 14638 Camino de la Luna and ended shortly before 10 a.m., the agency reported.

The sewage flowed into Zanja Creek, which leads into the San Dieguito River and, ultimately the Pacific Ocean in Del Mar.

Signs warning of sewage contamination were posted 600 feet north and south of the river outlet at the beach, and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
