Girl Scout money bandit forbidden from Albertsons

SAN DIEGO - A registered Escondido gang member who pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing money from a Girl Scouts troop was ordered to stay away from all Albertsons grocery stores.

David Betancort, 21, stole money from the Escondido Girl Scout Troop 2034 when they were selling cookies outside an Albertons grocery store last month.

A Vista judge sentenced Betancort to 240 days in jail and he was ordered to return the money for the misdemeanor. He's also forbidden from Albertsons.

The troop told 10News the money from the cookies was meant for the charity, Operation Thin Mint, which sends cookies to military members overseas.
