Geyser shoots up after U-Haul hits hydrant in Rolando

ROLANDO - A U-Haul van sheered off a fire hydrant in Rolando early Monday morning, sending a 30-foot geyser of water shooting up into the air.

The crash occurred at about 3 a.m. in the 6500 block of University Avenue. The driver and his passenger told San Diego police that a man jumped out in front of their U-Haul while they were driving down University Avenue. This sent the van skidding off the road and into the hydrant.

The two occupants were not hurt, police said. It took arriving firefighters about 15 minutes to shut off the water.

San Diego police did not confirm if any citations would be issued.
