Gas line break prompts brief evacuation of Toys R Us in La Mesa

LA MESA, Calif. - A Toys R Us store in La Mesa was briefly evacuated Wednesday due to a gas line break.

The incident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. at 8790 Grossmont Blvd., near Grossmont Center.

A construction crew hit a gas line between the Toys R Us and the Walmart store. Toys R Us was evacuated. After about five minutes, people were allowed to go back inside the store.

Crews with San Diego Gas & Electric are on scene as well as the Heartland Fire & Rescue Department and La Mesa police.

No injuries were immediately reported. It is unclear how long it will take to repair the line.
