A deputy patrolling the 1300 block of South Coast Highway 101 heard the woman screaming for help about 12:15 a.m., according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Maria Wood.
The woman was found trapped in some thick brush on the side of a cliff, and the Encinitas Fire Department was called to get her out, Wood said.
A man in the area approached deputies and was found to be in violation of a restraining order, Wood said, adding he was taken into custody and booked into the Vista jail. His name was not immediately released.
A television station reported that the man claimed to be the woman's boyfriend.
After firefighters rescued her, the woman was taken by ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, an Encinitas fire dispatcher said. The extent of her injuries was not immediately clear.
