The fire on Buena Hills Drive in the Buena Creek community was reported at 5:06 p.m. Tuesday, according to Oceanside fire Battalion Chief Bill Kogerman. Crews had it under control 20 minutes later.

Damage was estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $15,000 to its contents, Kogerman said.

While fighting the blaze, firefighters rescued a puppy from inside one of the duplex units, he said, noting the living spaces of both residences were saved from damage.
