Firefighters on Friday extinguished a brush fire near state Route 163, fire officials said.

Smoke was spotted billowing from the roadside about 12:10 p.m. north of University Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.Fire investigators were called out to determine the cause of the blaze that was believed to have started in a homeless encampment, a San Diego Fire- Rescue Department dispatcher said. No injuries were reported, she said.The onramps from University Avenue and Washington Street to northbound Route 163 were temporarily blocked, but were reported clear shortly before 1 p.m., the CHP reported on its website.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
