NATIONAL CITY - A restaurant that was destroyed in a fire overnight Thursday in National City may have been intentionally caused.
National City Fire Department crews responded to Rincon Del Mar, located at 314 Highland Ave., at about 12:30 a.m. Friday to find the restaurant engulfed in flames. It took about 20 minutes for crews to bring the fire under control, according to Battalion Chief Larry Silva.
The blaze started after the restaurant had closed for the evening. The bulk of the damage was in the kitchen, Silva said. No one was hurt.
National City Fire Marshal Robert Hernandez told 10News investigators believe the fire may have been arson. Hernandez said broken window glass was found inside the restaurant. With an accidental fire, glass is usually blown out, Hernandez said, so it appears someone may have broken in.
Witnesses also told police they saw three men at the restaurant prior to the blaze.
On June 17, a man was shot and killed outside Rincon Del Mar during a World Cup watch party. In July, 35-year-old Daniel Arce Gonzalez was arrested in the killing.
