Fire rips through Clairemont home: 2 adults displaced, 6 dogs killed

SAN DIEGO - Six dogs perished and two adults were displaced after a house in Clairemont caught fire early Wednesday, authorities said.
The noninjury fire in the 4800 block of Diane Ave. near Kings Way was reported at 4:01 a.m., according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher. Crews had it knocked down by 4:25 a.m., she said.
10News learned as many as 15 dogs may have been inside the home at the time of the fire. Six were killed in the blaze, one dog was found alive inside the house, three were surrendered to animal control and five were given back to the owner.
The cause was under investigation, but authorities said the fire may have started in a back bedroom.
Damages are estimated at $400,000.
