SAN DIEGO - A three-alarm fire tore through a condominium complex just south of Westfield Plaza Camino Real late Wednesday afternoon, but no injuries were reported.

The blaze in the 2300 block of Hosp Way in Carlsbad was reported shortly before 4 p.m., a dispatcher said.

The fire spread to the condo's attic area, dispatchers said, and several firefighters climbed the roof in an effort to keep the blaze from spreading.

A resident told 10News the fire was started by a construction crew working on the roof. Fire officials have not confirmed a cause as of 6 p.m.

10News learned 28 units at the complex had to be evacuated, leaving 16 people displaced.

Crews had the flames largely extinguished within an hour.

No injuries were reported.
