Fire engulfs pickup truck on Mission Bay Drive

SAN DIEGO - Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that destroyed a pickup truck along Mission Bay Drive on Monday.

According to firefighters, a witness called 911 reporting gunshots in the area at around 2 a.m.

Police arrived to find a parked truck fully engulfed by a blaze.

Crews were called to put out the fire near East Mission Bay and Clairemont drives, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher. No one was in the vehicle at the time, she said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The windshield was shot out, San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher said.

Firefighters told 10News they know who the truck belongs to and will be contacting them during the investigation.
