OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Four adults were displaced Tuesday after fire swept through their two-story house in Oceanside, causing $250,000 in damage.

The non-injury fire at 2634 Hope St. erupted in the upstairs portion of the house about 10 p.m. Monday, according to Oceanside fire Battalion Chief Peter Lawrence. Crews arrived within minutes and quickly had the blaze under control, he said in a statement.

Though flames were under control, firefighters remained at the scene until nearly 3 a.m., putting out hot spots and mopping up.

Half of the upstairs portion of the house was destroyed by the fire and the other half suffered significant smoke damage, Lawrence said. The downstairs portion had water and minor smoke damage.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.

Damage was estimated at $200,000 to the structure and $50,000 to its contents, Lawrence said.
