SAN DIEGO - A man is recovering in the hospital Thursday after a fire destroyed the garage he was staying in.

The fire took place in the 2700 block of Ariane Drive around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said they are investigating what started the blaze.

Neighbors told 10News that a mother was letting her two adult sons live with her and one of them may have been staying at the garage.

"Apparently there was an individual that was living here," Battalion Chief John Strock of the San Diego Fire Rescue Department said. "He was transported to the hospital."

Strock said crews had difficulty opening the garage door. But once that was opened, crews were able to put out the fire quickly.

Firefighters said they were forced to turn off the power at the home, leaving a woman and a neighbor displaced until the power is turned back on.
