SAN DIEGO - Fire officials on Sunday investigated a kitchen fire that caused an estimated $15,000 in damage to a downtown Asian restaurant.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 4:16 p.m. Saturday and it was put out at 4:35 p.m., said a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher.

The fire broke out in the stove flue of the J. Wok restaurant on the ground floor of a two-story building with apartments above, on the corner of Market Street and Eighth Avenue.

The blaze, which caused $3,000 in damage to property and $12,000 in damage to contents, was unintentional, the dispatcher said.

No injuries were reported.

J. Wok will be closed throughout the weekend and reopen Monday, according to a recorded message.
