A mixed martial arts fighter who appeared on the reality show The Ultimate Fighter is in custody Wednesday in San Diego following an altercation at a Pacific Beach bar, police said.

Twenty-eight-year-old "War Machine" -- formerly known as Jon Koppenhaver -- was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick. Police did not immediately make clear if the alleged weapon was the man's fists or an object.

Officers were called to Thrusters Lounge on Mission Boulevard shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, the sergeant said.

The suspect, who legally changed his name to "War Machine," ran from police and was caught a few blocks away at Bayard Street and Garnet Avenue, Battrick said.

The man appeared on the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter, produced for Spike TV by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
