SAN DIEGO - A man in baggy jeans and a long green jacket robbed a bank inside a grocery store in Clairemont on Tuesday.

The thief, who appeared to be in his late 20s to early 30s, handed a demand note to a teller at the U.S. Bank branch in the Vons store in the 5500 block of Balboa Avenue at about 4:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.

After the clerk turned over an undisclosed amount of cash, the bandit fled in an unknown direction, SDPD Officer David Stafford said. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses described the robber as a man who was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. He had short straight brown hair and a goatee. He was wearing a dark blue baseball cap with yellow letters, a dark olive coat, a gray t-shirt, light blue baggy jeans and a black belt.
