Fatal Traffic Accident Shuts Down Del Dios Highway

A man died Saturday when a cement truck and a pick-up truck crashed head-on on Del Dios Highway near the Lake Hodges dam.

No other injuries were reported, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said. Del Dios Highway from Calle Ambiente to Rancho Drive was shut down three hours as officials investigated the accident. Some vehicles stuck near the scene were backing down the highway more than two hours after the accident, CHP officers reported.

The crash reported just before noon sparked a fire that was quickly brought under control, according to a North Community fire dispatcher. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene.
