A person was killed Sunday in a fiery three-vehicle crash on Interstate 8 near San Diego State. All eastbound lanes were closed for more than four hours.

The crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 8 approaching College Avenue at 4:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.

All lanes of eastbound traffic were blocked at the Waring Road exit at 5:05 a.m., and were not expected to reopen until about 12:15 p.m.

A BMW vehicle caught fire after it overturned and ended up on its roof, according to a CHP dispatcher.

At least one person was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest by paramedics with undisclosed injuries.
