One person was killed Saturday when an SUV rolled down the side of an off-ramp on state Route 54 in Chula Vista, authorities said.
The accident was reported at 6:30 p.m. on the eastbound 54 freeway at Fourth Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to witnesses, the older white jeep was going at a high rate of speed before it fell of the Fourth Street off-ramp, rolled down an embankment, crashed into a tree and then stopped by a fence.
Paramedics tried to revive the driver but he died at the scene.
The victim has not been identified.
