Family, pets climb to roof overnight to escape Mira Mesa house fire; 1 dog still missing

Fire on 7600 block of Acama Place

SAN DIEGO - A two-story home caught fire in Mira Mesa early Monday, forcing a family and their pets to climb up to their roof for rescue.

The fire in the 7600 block of Acama Place was reported at 1:38 a.m. and knocked down 20 minutes later, according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher.

Firefighters said three people and five dogs climbed on top of their roof to escape the flames, but then they got stuck.

A neighbor saw what was happening and brought over a ladder to help them down to safety.

Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 in content losses, she said.

The cause was under investigation.
