The family of shooting suspect James Holmes released a statement Friday morning saying they are very upset and this event has taken everyone by surprise.

The family also stated that their hearts go out to the friends and families of the victims.

The Holmes family is asking for respect and privacy for the neighborhood and do not wish to be disturbed.

The father, Mr. Holmes, was escorted from the house to Lindbergh Field and onto a Southwest flight to Denver. He arrived in Colorado at about 12:30 p.m. Pacific time.
