Family, friends gather at Lake Murray to remember 2 men killed in boat collision

SAN DIEGO - Family and friends gathered at Lake Murray on Tuesday evening to remember two young men who were killed in a boat collision.

The crash occurred last Thursday on El Capitan Reservoir in Lakeside.

Russell Mendez, 20, and Jeffry Ingram, 21, lost their lives when the boats hit and everyone on board both vessels was ejected.

Those who knew the two men gathered to support each other and share memories. And they chose Lake Murray because it was one of the pair's favorite fishing spots.

Jacob Poston was among the group at Lake Murray. He said he was supposed to be on that boat with his friend, Mendez, but missed the trip because he overslept.

"Half the time I go back and forth wishing I was there with him so I wouldn't be left alone," Poston said. "I feel like I lost a rock in my life."

San Diego police are conducting an investigation into the crash. No charges have been filed.
