ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Armed robbers got away with about 40 Rolex watches worth about $480,000 during a jewelry store robbery at the Westfield North County mall.
The incident occurred just before 8:20 p.m. at the Royal Maui Jewelers. Escondido police say two men armed with handguns entered the store and demanded that the three employees – all women – get on the ground.
They then asked one of the employees to unlock and help unload a shelf filled with approximately 40 Rolex watches worth about $480,000.
No customers were inside at the time of the robbery.
The robbers ran out of the mall and through the Target store parking lot. Police say they got into two separate cars and sped off. No further description of the robbers or their vehicles was released.
One of the women was taken to the hospital with heart palpitations and rattled nerves, clearly shaken by the incident.
Royal Maui Jewelers has been robbed several times, both at Westfield North County and the Fashion Valley mall. Nearly one year ago, the store in Fashion Valley was robbed in almost the same manner. In that one, robbers also got away with Rolex watches.
It is unclear if Tuesday's robbery was related to any previous ones.
