JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, Calif. - East County residents were on edge Friday after a sexually violent predator was placed into his court-ordered home late Thursday night.
Mikel Marshall, 39, spent 14 years in prison. He spent another five years in a sex offender treatment program. A court placed him in a house located near Jacumba Hot Springs, much to the fear of the community.
"He was convicted of molesting a 4-year-old, 7-year-old and an 8-year-old, which is the same age as my boys," said Merritt Wyeth, who lives right down the hill now from Marshall.
Wyeth added, "I'm scared for my kids. I'm worried that they're not going to have the freedom that they've had for the last two years when we bought our house."
10News reporter Joe Little knocked on Marshall's door. A guard answered and said Marshall would lay low for a while. The guard added Marshall would be accompanied 24 hours a day, seven days a week by an armed guard for the foreseeable future. The guard could not say for how long.
Marshall has a hearing in May to see how he is doing.
