San Diego police received an alert about the 61-year-old man around midday, and patrol officers spotted him in his pickup truck outside a bar on Mission Boulevard about 1:45 p.m., SDPD public-affairs Lt. Andra Brown said. While starting to drive off, the man crashed his 2003 Ford F150 into another vehicle, then refused to yield when officers tried to pull him over, police said. The driver, who reportedly was distraught over health problems, headed east on Mission Bay Drive and got onto Interstate 8 with officers in pursuit. He crossed Mission Valley, passed San Diego State University and continued through La Mesa and El Cajon. The California Highway Patrol eventually took over the chase, though SDPD officers continued to tail the suspect in cruisers and aboard a patrol helicopter.Reaching Lakeside, the suspect continued to his home in the 9200 block of Dulene Drive, where he pulled over and surrendered to CHP personnel. It was not immediately clear if officers found a gun in the man's truck.Copyright Do you have more information about this story?
