Driver killed in high-speed crash near border

SAN DIEGO - A motorist was killed Friday afternoon when he crashed a pickup truck off a street in the Tijuana River Valley, just north of the U.S.-Mexican border.

The man was heading west at high speed in the 2600 block of Monument Road when his 1998 Toyota Tacoma hit an asphalt curb and a rock, and overturned, according to San Diego police.

The victim died of head injuries at the scene of the wreck, which was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m., SDPD Officer Frank Cali said.

The driver's name was not immediately released.
