SAN DIEGO - A driver in a stolen SUV led police through southeastern San Diego early Friday but was arrested after officers used a spike strip to flatten the vehicle's tires, police said.

Officers tried to stop the 1995 Jeep in the vicinity of 36th and Market streets about 12:30 a.m., but the driver took off, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said.

He headed north on Interstate 15 then east on state Route 94, weaving through the southeast portion of the city, he said.

Police laid down a spike strip that flattened the SUV's tires at 39th Street and Franklin Avenue, Cali said. Officers then arrested the driver, whose name was not immediately released.
