EL CAJON, Calif. - Two people are in custody Monday after leading officers on a pursuit that ended in a crash in El Cajon.
At about 5:45 p.m., an officer driving on Wisconsin Avenue spotted a woman and man in a Honda that was reported stolen. When the officer tried to pull them over, the female driver sped off.
"The pursuit went into the city of El Cajon, onto the freeway, into La Mesa, back onto the freeway and finally came off on Navajo," said El Cajon police Lt. Mark Coit.
Witness Alex Morales was standing at the intersection of Navajo Road and Medford Street when she saw the Honda slam into two other cars just before 6 p.m.
"The guy starts running for it," she said. "Then a couple of seconds later, the girl starts running for it and she gets tackled by a canine right in front of that house over there and she's arrested and they found the guy a couple of seconds later."
Morales added, "Those dogs are pretty gnarly. I mean, he just tackled her down and was pulling her just like she was nothing."
The woman was taken a local hospital to be treated. No one inside the two cars that were struck by the Honda was injured.
