CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Police said a driver is lucky to have survived Friday night after she crashed her SUV into a Chula Vista home.
The Chula Vista Police Department said the wreck occurred at the intersection of Canyon Drive and Cumbre View at around 10:15 p.m.
According to officers, the woman said she was traveling downhill on Cumbre View when her brakes went out at the stop sign, and she sailed through the intersection slamming into the home located in the 500 block of Canyon Drive.
Three adults and two children were in the home watching TV or sleeping at the time of the crash, and said they heard a loud explosion and felt the house shake.
"We were so scared, so we went down right away to check and we saw that a car had went into our house," said homeowner Raul Enriquez.
Enriquez said when he and his family ran outside, they saw the driver still inside of her completely totaled Nissan Xterra.
Police said the driver tried to get out of the vehicle, but that the residents told her to stay still and called 911.
10News has learned that relatives of the woman came running to the scene, and said she had just let their home to go to the store moments before the wreck.
Paramedics were called to the scene to evaluate the woman's condition, but said she didn't suffer any injuries.
Police said age may have been a factor in the crash, but alcohol was not. A test of the wreckage will determine if the wreck was a result of an actual brake failure, or driver error.
