Dozens without water service after main break in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO - A pipeline break left dozens of homes near Mission Bay High School without water service Friday.

A private contractor accidentally ruptured the eight-inch-diameter concrete main while digging at Grand Avenue and Olney Street in Pacific Beach about 10:45 a.m., according to the San Diego Water Department.

Crews had the resulting overflow under control by shortly before noon, DWD spokesman Arian Collins said. No structural flooding was reported.

The mishap knocked left two blocks of each street at the intersection and a single block of nearby Thomas Avenue without functional plumbing.

All the affected addresses were expected to be back online by about 7 p.m., Collins said.
