POWAY - Heavy winds toppled a large Eucalyptus tree that came crashing down onto a major thoroughfare in Poway overnight Tuesday.
Sometime before 4 a.m., the tree crashed in the 13400 block of Midland Road, between Poway Road and Hilleary Place, bringing down a street light with it. No one was hurt.
"I heard sort of a push and a bang, and I thought maybe a car had run into something out here," neighbor Cori Brown said.
The tree uprooted when it fell over. City crews had to chop up the tree piece by piece in order to remove it. The road was closed in both directions through 7 a.m.
