RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - A pug-Pekinese mix displaced by Hurricane Sandy and brought to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe was adopted Friday by a SeaWorld Rescue crew member who fell for the pint-sized dog named Lassie during a cross-country flight.

Jessica DeCoursey of Virginia officially adopted Lassie after veterinarians at the Helen Woodward Animal Center checked her out Friday morning.

Several East Coast shelters sent their dogs and cats west when the storm rendered their facilities unusable, and Southwest Airlines brought a plane full of animals to San Diego.

Lassie was treated for skin rashes, given a dental check up and had some benign tumors removed at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
