DNC chairwoman calls on Mayor Bob Filner to resign

Says Filner's acts 'reprehensible'

SAN DIEGO - The chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee says San Diego Mayor Bob Filner should resign as national media attention grows on sexual harassment scandal.

Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz leads the DNC. She said the misconduct Filner has been accused of is, "reprehensible and indefensible."

Her full statement reads:

“The misconduct Mayor Bob Filner has been accused of is reprehensible and indefensible. I am personally offended by his actions and I firmly believe no employee should face a hostile environment or harassment at their place of employment. There is no place for this type of conduct in the workplace and certainly not in our city halls and public offices.

“For the good of the City of San Diego, I call on Mayor Filner to resign.”

Wasserman Schultz's call for Filner's resignation comes after the San Diego County Democratic Party leaders voted to ask the embattled mayor to resign on Thursday evening.
