Distressed hiker dies after rescue near Julian

SAN DIEGO - A teen that suffered a medical episode while hiking Tuesday in the Julian area died after being rescued.

The victim was identified Wednesday as 18-year-old Yasmen Vidales.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reports that a woman called 911 at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday to report that her hiking companion Vidales was suffering from heat-related physical distress at the Three Sisters Falls trailhead.

Deputies and firefighters responded to Boulder Creek Road and began first aid on Vidales. She was airlifted to a San Diego hospital, where she passed away, the sheriff’s department said.

The San Diego Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
