POWAY - Authorities warned the public Friday to be on the lookout for an unidentified man who lewdly harassed an 11-year-old North County girl this week as she was walking home from school.
The stranger made sexual comments and gestures at the child shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday while standing in a driveway in the 14200 block of Tierra Bonita Road in Poway, according to sheriff's officials.
"The girl ignored him and continued walking away, while the man repeated his lewd behavior," Deputy Matt Carpenter said. "The girl walked faster and got away from the man."
When the Twin Peaks Middle School student got home, she called her mother, who reported the crime.
The victim described the perpetrator as a roughly 5-foot-9-inch white man from 35 to 45 years old, with short, straight brown hair.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
