Deputies: Shots fired, ax swung in fight northeast of El Cajon

EL CAJON, Calif. - Shots were fired and an ax was swung in a fight northeast of El Cajon, sheriff's deputies said Saturday.

Two people were spotted fighting a man with an ax in the 8500 block of Rosada Court near Avenida del Charro shortly before 7 p.m. Friday, sheriff's Sgt. Scott Sterner said.

As deputies arrived, dispatchers advised them that shots had been heard in the area and a white Cadillac was seen being driven away, Sterner said.

Deputies caught up to the Cadillac, stopped it and detained two occupants, according to the sergeant.

The deputies immediately found evidence that linked the suspects to the crime scene, Sterner said. A gun was found about 100 feet from the car, and it appeared the passenger tossed it out as the deputies initially passed them.

An expended shell casing in the same caliber as the tossed gun was found inside the car, he said.

A second casing and a blood-soaked glove were spotted in the roadway between the car and the home where the fight broke out, Sterner said.

One of the suspects was treated for a minor abdominal wound, then was released to deputies' custody, Sterner said. Another suspect was arrested on suspicion of charges related to the shooting, he said.

Neither name was released.

Several people on Rosada Court were contacted after the incident, and deputies determined there were no other injuries or property damage, Sterner said. All of the involved parties refused to cooperate with investigating deputies, but witnesses helped to identify those involved in the incident, he said.
