VISTA, Calif. - A Marine suspected of having fired multiple gunshots inside an apartment in Vista overnight, was arrested Thursday morning after a five-hour standoff, sheriff's officials said.
Multiple gunshots were reported shortly before midnight at the Taylor Brooke apartment community in the 900 block of Taylor Street near Riviera Drive. The suspect, 26-year-old Chris Johnson, allegedly fired shots from his .44 caliber magnum revolver into his flat-screen TV. The rounds went through the TV, then through the north wall of the residence and into the neighborhood. Johnson then allegedly fired another round through the front door which wound up going through the closed window of a nearby apartment.
After sheriff's deputies responded and attempted to contact Johnson, a couple of neighboring apartments were evacuated and the sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail was brought in. Contact was made with Johnson and he came out of the apartment on his own at around 4:45 a.m., where he was taken into custody. No one was injured, sheriff's Lt. Dave Schaller said.
Other neighbors told 10News that Johnson was apparently drunk and banged on their doors wanting a cup of juice.
Johnson was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on several weapons counts. A number of handguns and rifles were seized from the apartment as evidence.
