Deputies: Alpine sex assault claim was falsified

SAN DIEGO - A woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by two men in a pickup truck last week in Alpine fabricated parts of the story, authorities reported Friday.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported today that the assault likely did not occur in Alpine. Investigators also suspect there was only one attacker, not two.

The victim had initially reported that she was attacked by two men on July 7 at about 8 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Grade Road in Alpine.

“The victim’s recollection of the incident now reveal the assault did not happen in the community of Alpine on Monday, July 7th,” the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

“While the case is still being actively investigated, the Alpine Sheriff's Station is confident in advising the community that the incident previously described did not take place and there is no danger to the community as a result.”

A public forum previously scheduled to take place Friday at 11 a.m. at the Alpine Sheriff’s Station went on as planned.
