The stabbing in the 100 block of Sixth Avenue was reported at 3:25 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Todd Sluss.

The injury is not life-threatening, the sergeant said in a statement.

The assailant fled on foot and may be a transient, Sluss said. He said he was white, unshaven, with brown hair and appeared to be in his 40s.
