SAN DIEGO - A woman in her 30s was shot to death in Logan Heights early Friday, police said.
Police received a report of shots fired on 31st and Commercial streets at about 3:50 a.m.
A man working at a nearby business called 911 after he heard gunfire and went outside to find the woman's body, said Lt. Jorge Duran with San Diego Police Department homicide.
The woman, who appeared to be in her 30s, died from single gunshot wound, Duran said, noting her identity was unknown. Initial reports indicated that the woman may have been bleeding in the head.
10News reporter Ashlee DeMartino was at the scene as investigators collected evidence. The woman could be seen lying on the sidewalk and wearing what appeared to be a French maid costume, but police would not confirm that detail.
Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate.
Detectives were following up on leads from witnesses, who saw a male wearing a blue sweatshirt leaving the area north on 31st Street, according to the lieutenant.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call detectives at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
