POWAY, Calif. - Authorities Friday released the name of a Lakeside man who died when he crashed a speeding pickup truck into a pair of trees in Poway while texting.
David Doiron, 43, crashed the Ford F150 in the area of Espola and Trailwind Roads late Wednesday night, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. David Cheever.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Doiron was driving fast and erratically on Espola Road when his truck suddenly veered off the right side of the road, hit a curb and struck two trees before coming to rest on its passenger side, Cheever said.
Doiron died while firefighters were attempting to free him from the wreckage.
Doiron was not wearing a seat belt at the time and was either receiving or sending text messages at the time of the crash, Cheever said, noting that toxicology tests were pending to determine whether drugs or alcohol also played a role.
