SAN DIEGO - A cyclist says he was struck by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday night and lay in a ditch unconscious for hours before awaking and riding his bike to a nearby Spring Valley convenience store for help.
Christopher Hogan said he had gone to get gas at Campo Road and Bancroft Drive around 1 a.m. Thursday when he saw the man with a bloody head pedaling up, so he rushed over to help him. He said the man told him he left Lemon Grove around 9 p.m.
California Highway Patrol officers told 10News the man did not know where he was hit, when he was hit or who hit him. The clerk at ARCO AM/PM said the cyclist smelled like alcohol, and since his bike was not damaged he was not convinced it was a hit-and-run.
10News crews at the scene said an ambulance rushed him to an area hospital for treatment of a serious head injury.
