Cyclist rushed to hospital after collision with car in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA - A 60-year-old bicyclist was seriously hurt after a collision with a car Sunday night in Chula Vista.

Chula Vista police report the man was riding the bike across Fourth Avenue, heading west on E street, just after 8 p.m. when he collided with a Honda sedan. The cyclist was not in a crosswalk.

The 47-year-old driver of the car and his wife pulled over immediately and cooperated with officers, police said.

“Witnesses said that he came between the vehicles that were going the opposite direction,” Chula Vista police Sgt. John McAvenia said. “It had just gotten dark and the motorist said he never saw the bike.  It was almost too late.”

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police closed down the intersection for several hours while they investigated.
