CSU chancellor to attend CSUSM graduation

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Cal State San Marcos announced Thursday that California State University Chancellor Timothy White will attend one of its delayed graduation ceremonies this weekend.

Commencement was due to begin last Friday, but was delayed one week due to the Cocos Fire, which blackened nearly 2,000 acres and destroyed 36 homes in the hills above campus. Students and staff were evacuated from campus for a few days last week.

According to the school, White will attend the College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences ceremony set for Sunday morning.

He will present CSU student trustee Cipriano Vargas with bachelor degrees in sociology and women's studies. Vargas has represented the approximately 447,000 CSU students as one of two appointed student trustees since 2011.

Graduation ceremonies at the North County school begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the College of Business Administration, followed at 4:30 p.m. by the College of Education, Health and Human Services.

Commencement is set to conclude at 3 p.m. Sunday with the College of Science and Mathematics.
