Crews respond to natural gas leak at parking structure

SAN DIEGO - Crews were called in Thursday afternoon to fix a natural gas leak at a University City parking structure.

According to authorities, the leak reported at about 4:15 p.m. after a pipe was struck during construction at a five-story parking garage in the 9800 block of Genesee Avenue near Regents Road.

A hazardous materials team was summoned to the scene after fumes reportedly entered the Ximed Medical Group building, which is next to the parking structure.

At about 6:30 p.m., officials at the scene told 10News San Diego Gas & Electric crews were able to shut the gas off and were in the process of repairing the broken line.

SDG&E officials said they expected to have the line repaired and gas back on between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

No injuries or evacuations were immediately reported.
